Lamberhurst New Years Day kids 1k run and adults 5k and 10k races

Wednesday 1st January 2014 saw the first Lamberhurst New Years Day Run, and despite the awful weather, it was a resounding success!

I set up this event with the assistance of Nice Work to raise funds for the maintenance of the village playground.

Almost 200 runners braved the wind and rain to come to our lovely village and enter either the 10k or 5k race. There was also a 1k children’s race which went down very well, giving some youngsters their first experience of road running.

The 10k feature race consisted of two laps of an undulating route starting in Lamberhurst High Street, then running up the challenging Spray Hill and through the grounds of Scotney Castle.

The 2015 Lamberhurst New Year’s Day races were a smashing success with 285 runners competing this year!
We managed to raise £2,285 for the local primary school’s All Weather Sports Pitch fund.

2016 saw 317 runners braving the elements and recording some amazing times!  As ever with our runs, we attracted not only the elite runners but also those taking on their first ever 5k or 10k which was fabulous!  We pride ourselves on being an inclusive run that is challenging but welcoming to all levels of runner.  We upped the anti this year with chip timing and very swanky medals so our costs were higher, however we still raised around £1,500 which went to the Lamberhurst Bonfire Society who provide an absolutely wonderful free firework display in our gorgeous village every year.

The 2017 Lamberhurst New Years Day races were again a huge success with 365 adult runners and a whopping 68 kids completing their runs!  We raised £1,567 which was split equally between The Bone Cancer Research Trust (my London marathon charity) and the Lamberhurst St Marys PTA.

I will start to plan the 2018 races in around October and I’m always looking to improve something from the year before.  The race has its own Facebook page (Lamberhurst New Years Day Run)  so check out the pics and join us in 2018!

Race planning is well under way for 2019, hoping to attract even more runners than ever! The majority of funds raised this year will go to Lamberhurst War Memorial repair fund (race HQ), with a smaller but not insignificant amount going to Lamberhurst Brownies. Thanks for all your support over the years, hope to see you again on the 1st Jan.
